Lesson for September 30, 2017.

THE OBJECT AND PURPOSE OF LIFE

Scripture Reading: John 15:1-20.

Memory Verse: John 15:8.

  1. What actuated the Father to give His son— and did Jesus voluntarily give Himself? 1 John 4:10,16; John 10:10,11,15, 17.
  2. Did Christ have to give up comforts and riches in order to carry out His work? 2 Corinthians 8:9; Luke 9:58.
  3. Did the world appreciate Christ and His work, even though He made so great a sacrifice? John 1:11.
  4. Can there be greater love manifest than that which Christ demonstrated for us? John 15:13; Romans 5:7, 8.
  5. What reward encouraged our Lord to endure the cross? Hebrews 12:12; Isaiah 53:11,12.
  6. To whom did Jesus commit His work? Mark 13:34.

NOTE:  His disciples were his followers, and so it is today. We are to follow in His steps, and make full proof of our stewardship. By Divine Power we can be conquerors of ourselves, and overcome this world, leading consecrated lives that others will follow. We will find joy in giving of our means and our time in the same work for which He lived and died.

  1. What mind should be in us? Philippians 2:4,5.
  2. What is the underlying principle that actuates a true missionary worker? 2 Corinthians 5:14,15.
  3. Will any amount of labor, suffering or sacrifice profit us anything without this love? 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.
  4. May we expect any better treatment from the world than our Saviour received ? John 15:18-20.
  5. Is suffering for Christ’s sake a part of the Christian’s earthly heritage? Philippians 1:29.
