Lesson for September 6, 2025
SELF-DENIAL AND SACRIFICE ASSURES BLESSINGS
Scripture Reading: Acts 9:1-20.
Memory Verse: Acts 9:16; Rom. 12:1.
- What is declared to be a disciple’s reasonable service? Rom. 12:1.
- What was one of the requirements the Saviour made of those who were bidden to follow him? Mark 8:34.
Note: To deny ourselves the things of life is one of the hardest lessons we have to learn. People are prone to do what they want to do. It is hard to crucify the flesh, and say “no” to ourselves of the things we really need for own comfort, that we may place some of our substances in the work of the Gospel. The Saviour said, unless we deny ourselves, and take up our cross and follow him, we have no part with Him. Self-denial is taught all throughout the scriptures.
- Did the Apostle Paul deny himself, and suffer for the work? Acts 9:16.
- What instructions did Paul give when giving the charge to the Ministry? II Timothy 4:5.
- Were His followers to endure hardness and encounter afflictions? II Timothy 1:8; and 2:3.
- What kind of gain is really consoling, and brings happiness and contentment to the soul? 1 Tim. 6:6.
Note. The Heavenly Father desires that the earth shall be filled with joy and peace. He created man for happiness, and He longs to fill human hearts with the peace and joy of Heaven.
- Will riches bring happiness, and with what are we commanded to be satisfied and content? I Tim. 6:7.8
- What happen to the rich, and what about a love for money? Verses 9 and 10.
- What commandment was given to ministers? How long were we charged to keep it? Verses 11-14
Note. Spending money uselessly for pleasure, and for many things people can easily get along without, is a sin, when there are countless thousands suffering for the necessities of life, and also when there is even a greater spiritual need. A true consecrated disciple of the meek and sacrificing Saviour, will be careful in the expenditure of every penny.
