MOSES, GIVER OF THE LAW 

Scripture reading: Deuteronomy 34:1-8.

Memory verse: Hebrews 11:24, 25. 

Note. ΓÇö MosesΓÇÖ life was divided into three parts: (1) ΓÇô in the courts of Egypt; (2) ΓÇö in the desert as a tender of JethroΓÇÖs flocks; (3) ΓÇö in the wilderness with Israel. Each of these three periods was forty years. It took him eighty years to prepare for forty years of service.

  1. Discuss the circumstances which brought Israel into Egypt and placed them in bondage. Exodus 1:1-14.
  2. How did Moses, a Hebrew, come to be called the son of PharaohΓÇÖs daughter? Exodus 1:15-22; 2:1-10.

Note. ΓÇö Josephus tells us that PharaohΓÇÖs daughter was Thermuthis, who had no child of her own. Moses was reared to become PharaohΓÇÖs successor, and as general of the army he led a very successful campaign into Ethiopia.

  1. What was the turning point in MosesΓÇÖ life, and how did it come about? Exodus 2:11-25.
  2. How did Moses spend the second period of his life, and how did it end? Exodus 3 and 4.
  3. How did Moses launch his career as the leader of Israel? Exodus 4:29-31; 5:1-9.
  4. How long did Moses lead the children of Israel, and why were they so long in the wilderness? Numbers 14:1-5; 26-29.
  5. What was the end of this great heroΓÇÖs life? Deuteronomy 34:1-8.
