GREATEST AMONG YOU A SERVANT

Scripture Reading: Luke 9:46-62.

Memory Verse: Matthew 20:27.

  1. What strife arose among the apostles in Luke 22:24?
  2. Was the Saviour to be ministered unto or to serve others? Luke 22:27.
  3. What did the Saviour say about Gentile leaders exercising lordship and exhibiting authority? Mark 10:42.
  4. Did he commend or condemn such among church leaders? Mark 10:43.
  5. Did the Saviour give us an example of being served, or of serving others? Mark 10:44,45.
  6. Are leaders and others commanded to follow Him, and to walk as He walked? John 8:12; 1 Peter 2:21.
  7. What commands are further given to the Elders and leaders concerning coercion and ruling by force and fear? 1 Peter 5:1-3.
  8. What is the position and duty of leaders toward the laity of the Church of God? Acts 20:28.
  9. What will be the work of each disciple (follower) of Christ to prove his or her love for Him? John 21:15.

NOTE: The words of every true disciple will be seasoned with strengthening food for encouragement to press on. He will also practice self denial and prefer others before himself.

  1. In order to impress this solemn duty upon us, our Saviour used the words “Feed my sheep”; were these words repeated to Peter? John 21:16,17.
  2. Was Paul’s life filled with self denial and hardship, or did he (because he was a chosen leader in the Church of God) seek after material benefits and follow a life of ease? 2 Corinthians 11:26-28.
  3. Did Paul rule the people through threats, coercion and fear, or were they subject to his commands through love? Acts 20:31-35.
  4. Are we commanded to follow the example set by Paul, as well as in the steps of Christ? 1 Corinthians 11:1.
  5. Should we seek the favor and company of those considered great among men? Romans 12:16.
  6. What good instruction is given in Romans 12:10?
  7. What witness do we have in Hebrews 3:5 concerning a great leader, chosen by God, in Old Testament times?
  8. What qualifications for a servant are set forth in 2 Timothy 2:24, 25.
